Nerd Music: Kirby Krackle

KirbyKrackle

Kirby Krackle is one of the greatest bands of all time.  If you’re not listening to them, then shame on you.  No, this isn’t just bias because their lyrics are heavily comic book driven.  They also have songs about video games and old Saturday morning cartoons!  See, these guys have range!
Kyle Stevens and Jim Demonakos have been rocking the nerd world since 2009 with their self-titled debut album.  Their recent release (“E For Everyone”) even features a full music video for the single “On And On.”  I pulled up an e-chair and sat down with the duo as we discussed the video, their writing process, and various other nerdy things.  Hit the jump for the full interview!

Nerd Music: 80s & 90s Cartoon Covers

I would SO watch this show.
Remember when cartoons were AWESOME? Me too.

It’s fair to say most mainstream nerds grew up as kids in the late Eighties or early Nineties. You can see examples of this just by walking into a Hot Topic and counting the number of Care Bears and He-Man shirts for sale. It becomes especially apparent if you listen to a couple of B-sides from your favorite artists. In this special edition of Nerd Music, we’ll be highlighting some of the best old-school cartoon covers around.

Nerd Music: Pokemon Reorchestrated

A Wild Pokemon Symphony has appeared!

Pokemon Reorchestrated is a wonderful project brought to you by Braxton Burks (AKA skotein) and Richard LaBrooy (AKA Seiiki). They take the musical pieces from the old school first gen Pokemon Red, Blue and Yellow  games and transform the nostalgic beeps and boops into full fledged orchestral arrangements.

They use instrument sample libraries from companies such as East West, Project SAM, audiobro, and Westgate Studios to achieve a realistic orchestral sound and tweak the final products with Logic Pro for sound engineering, and Finale for arranging the scores.

Skotein was awesome enough to give us a short interview.

Nerd Music: They Might Be Giants

They Might Be Giants

They Might Be Giants is an “alternative-rock” group that has been around since 1982. Starting out with members John Flansburgh, John Linnell, and…a drum machine, the band eventually recruited more members and found success with their first full albums “They Might Be Giants” and “Lincoln.” You’ve probably heard They Might Be Giants before, even if you didn’t realize it.

Nerd Music: The Protomen

The Protomen
Taken from myspace.com/theprotomen

Do you like Mega Man? Do you like epic, multiple act, rock operas? Then, The Protomen may be the band for you.
Hailing from Tennesse, The Protomen first took the stage a few years back with their self-titled debut album. Using the basic Mega Man mythos as a springboard, it played out scenes of a dark future, where Wily has already taken over the world and Mega Man sets out to avenge his fallen brother Protoman. Each track varies from high octane fight music, to a depressing funeral march.
