With a March 20th release date, Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City is poised to unleash squad-based action onto the streets of Raccoon City and rewrite the history of the events depicted in Resident Evil 2 and 3. Check out the new trailer and see the “missing piece” of the Raccoon City story – the events from Umbrella’s perspective.
Players will be able to slash, blast, and kick their way through one of survival horror’s most beloved, and terrifying, settings as one of six different Umbrella operatives (though, with only four player co-op, not six…for some reason). Zombies, Lickers, Hunters, Tyrants, and plenty of classic RE monsters litter the streets, along with U.S. Government operatives, and of course, Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield.
So far, the trailers have shown certain key events franchise veterans will be familiar with, like Claire and Leon’s separation in a car accident, but also new events where the heroes encounter Umbrella’s forces. Just how much of the series history will be rewritten has yet to be revealed, but perhaps Operation Raccoon City will play as more of a “why not?” entry and have fun rather than strictly sticking to the established continuity? We’ll find out in March.
